What to have ready when you call

  • Your insurance card
  • The name of your referring eye doctor (if applicable)
  • A general description of your symptoms or reason for visit
  • Your preferred office location (Syracuse, Watertown, Binghamton, or Ithaca)

What to expect

When you call, our scheduling team will ask a few questions about your symptoms to make sure your concern is well-suited to a retina specialist. In most cases, we'll be able to schedule your visit on the call. For urgent symptoms — sudden vision changes, flashes and floaters, a curtain in your vision — we will work to arrange evaluation as quickly as possible.

A referral is not required, though some insurance plans may require one for coverage. We recommend checking with your insurance plan in advance.

Urgent evaluation

If you are experiencing sudden vision loss, flashes of light with new floaters, or a curtain or shadow across your vision, call us right away. These can be signs of a retinal tear or detachment and should be evaluated promptly.

After hours

If you experience an urgent retinal symptom outside of office hours, call (315) 445-8166. The on-call surgeon can be paged for true retinal emergencies.

Non-urgent questions

For non-urgent questions or to message about an existing appointment, you can reach us through the patient portal (existing patients) or by calling during business hours.
