Dr. Patrick Oellers is a board-certified retina specialist with extensive experience in surgical retina care, clinical research, and medical education. Originally from Germany, he completed medical school in his hometown before coming to the U.S. as a Max Kade Fellow at the renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.
He went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at Duke University, followed by a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Harvard Medical School's Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he served as Chief Fellow and received the Thomas J. Madden Fellowship Award for excellence in surgical training.
Dr. Oellers has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has presented at major national and international conferences. He has served as principal investigator on multiple clinical trials supported by the National Eye Institute and industry partners, and is a regular peer reviewer for scientific journals.
He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Oellers serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University and sits on the Board of Directors for Aurora of Central New York, a nonprofit supporting individuals with vision or hearing loss.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, playing tennis, and enjoying the outdoors in Central New York.
