The uveal tract of the eye consists of all the blood vessels in the eye not including the retinal vessels. Uveal blood vessels encompass those found in the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. Uveitis occurs when the uveal tract becomes inflammed. This can occur as a result of a number of systemic diseases or as a result of an infecious agent. Untreated, uveitis can cause severe vision loss leading to blindness.
Symptoms of uveitis include:
- Eye redness
- Eye pain
- Light sensitivity
- Blurred vision
- Dark, floating spots in your field of vision (floaters)
- Decreased vision
